So it turns out train travel by night can be complicated. Everyone did a great job of working together, but nobody got a lot of sleep.
Ian was awakened when the train stopped at a station at 1:20 AM and looked at his watch - upside down! He reported to his "couchette" mates that it was 7:50 and the train was at the station. Everyone panicked; Ryan even jumped up, got dressed, and started brushing his teeth before it occured to him that it was still quite dark ouside. It was a good laugh to help lighten the heaviest part of our journey.
Once in Florence, we had a look about and then made our way by coach to San Gimignano. After a quick stop in the walled city of Monteriggio, we arrived and prepared for the concert. Sant'Agostino has a marvelous acoustic, so it was a fun place to sing. "Sing Praise
to the Lord" was at its best tonight.
We spent a little more time in the city then took the coach to Siena. After showers and dinner, we ended the evening with a stroll through town and gelato.
We are ready to slow down the pace of travel tomorrow.
